Compulsory working with children check

By The Webmaster,

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL COACHES, MANAGERS, TRAINERS AND COMMITTEE PEOPLE MUST APPLY FOR THEIR WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK.

PLEASE FOLLOW THAT THROUGH AND THEN EMAIL ME BACK YOUR CONFIRMATION.

Hi everyone,

As we all move towards getting things in place for the 2015 season I would like to remind you that the New Working with Children Check will be phased in for volunteers in sport for 2015.  I would like to provide some background and procedures which will be necessary when recruiting to your club:

A Working with Children Check is a prerequisite for anyone in child-related work (voluntary or paid).  The new check covers more people, is more comprehensive and will provide better protection for children.  It is also more consistent with other state and territory Checks, giving the starting point for a national Check.

A Working with Children Check includes a national police check and a review of findings of misconduct.

The results is either a clearance to work with children for five years or a bar against working with children.  Barred applicants may not work or volunteer with children.

Cleared applicants are subject to ongoing monitoring, and relevant new records may lead to the clearance being revoked.

The Check is portable and can be used for any child-related work in NSW.

A Working with Children Check is only one of the tools available to keep children safe.  Having good child-safe policies and practices is an important part of creating a safer environment.

A Working with Children Check for volunteers is FREE.

How to apply:

  1. Submit your application online by going to: http://www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/working-with-children/working-with-children-check
  2. Once your application has been completed online you will be given an application (APP) number.
  3. To complete the application, you must take your application number along with proof of identity to a NSW Motor Registry, RMS Agency or Service NSW office.
  4. Paid workers will need to provide the fee of $80.00.  For volunteers the Check is free.
  5. Once you have provided proof of identity to a NSW Motor Registry, RMS Agency or Service NSW office most people will receive their results in a few days.

Whilst there are exemptions to who MUST have a Working with Children Check the policy endorsed by the board of the Penrith & Districts Junior Rugby League is:

All volunteers (over the age of 18 years) MUST have a Working With Children Check to hold any position within their club, paid or voluntary.

Process following the check:

When appointing persons to positions within your club, you will need to request their working with children check number.  A list of the names of the people appointed and their WWCC numbers will need to be submitted to the Junior League.

The Junior League is a registered employer and will then do the appropriate online checking and update the documentation required to be kept by Kids Guardian.

Please see the template below, this is all the information the Junior League requires.

NAME DATE OF BIRTH CONFIRMATION NUMBER POSITION AT CLUB EXPIRY DATE

Can you please start to collect these from your volunteers and have them submitted to me by Friday 30th of January.
